Programs & Events — Member Teleconferences
The Project for Attorney Retention holds quarterly teleconferences on current retention and work/life issues for all attorneys employed by its member organizations.
PAR’s most recent teleconferences include:
Her Place at the Table: Negotiating for Yourself with Carol Frohlinger (December 13, 2011)
Research suggests that women are excellent at negotiating for others. They are not as good at negotiating for themselves. It is clear, however, that regardless of how you define career success, you must be skilled at negotiating for your interests with clients as well as inside the firm.
Fair Measure: Towards Effective Attorney Evaluations with Joan C. Williams (January 27, 2011)
The legal marketplace is shifting once again, and law firms are faced with business pressures to secure and maintain client business, provide high-quality service, increase attorney productivity, stem unwanted attrition, enhance recruitment of a diverse group of talented attorneys, and curb costs. An effective, bias-free performance evaluation system can help firms meet their business goals and objectives. A firm’s evaluation process has a direct and positive impact on a firm’s bottom line. However, failing to adopt such a system will often lead to significantly greater costs, including attrition, poor morale, diminished productivity, lower client satisfaction, and exposure to discrimination claims.

The Pudding: Proof that Balanced Hours Pay Off for All with Cynthia Calvert Thomas (November 18, 2010)
It turns out that promoting reduced-hours lawyers to partner pays off -- literally. The Project for Attorney Retention’s study of part-time partners revealed significant revenue generation, high levels of client service, and notable satisfaction and loyalty. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Cynthia Thomas Calvert, principal of CT Calvert & Associates and senior advisor to PAR, takes us through a deeper look at the findings of the study and a discussion of the lessons learned that law firms and lawyers can put to use today to reap benefits of their own. This teleconference is of particular interest to law firm partners and administrators, partners who are working reduced hours, reduced-hours associates who are interested in partnership, and clients who want to learn how supporting reduced hours benefits them. The report is available on PAR's website at http://www.attorneyretention.org/Publications/PartTimePartner.pdf.
